1000 for White
January 14, 2009
With a simple foul shot, one of the many talents
Bard fans have had the chance to see Justin White
exhibit, the electric junior point guard became just
the seventh player in Raptors history to reach the
1,000 point milestone Wednesday night against
Polytechnic University.
White went on to score 30 points, continuing a
career that no less an authority than all-time Bard
leading scorer Adam Turner has called the finest in
school history.
While it may seem a strange thing to point out about
White on a night when he made history for his
scoring, Raptormania! chooses to highlight in
addition his eight rebounds-a team high. He dished
out four assists and turned the ball over just two
times.
The season has been difficult to date for the Bard
Raptors, filled with injuries and some close losses,
but it would be foolish to ignore the reality-that each
game offers fans the chance to watch the finest
all-around player in Raptor history.
Though many of his supporting players have missed
time, and defenses have keyed on him, White has
continued to get his points, find his teammates, grab
rebounds over taller men.
His name joins six others in Bard history- Adam
Turner, Price Mason, Jamell Kendrick, Sean Alford,
William Purdom, and Josef Woldense.
Raptormania! has now been privileged enough to
see three of them: Turner, Woldense and now
White. Turner and Woldense gave the program
hope- White's game provides Raptor faithful with
simple delight in basketball. Here's hoping the next
milestone-and there will be many more- is
celebrated in victory. White deserves it.
