Bard Men Open Season Strong
November 17, 2008
Despite facing difficult squads from both Plymouth
State and Centenary, the Raptors showed that
preseason observers calling them the team to beat in
both the Skyline Conference as well as nationally
were onto something in a pair of weekend games to
open the season.
On Saturday, the Raptors fell to host Plymouth
State, 79-69, though the team trailed by two with
just two minutes to go. New Hampshire is famous
for hometown calls, and Saturday's game was no
different, with point guard Justin White whistled for
a pair of late fouls simply because he favored an
income tax to help the Granite State's failing schools.
White overcame such regressive thinking to score
27 points, while fellow progressive James Martin
added 22 points.
The Raptors lost a heartbreaker to Centenary
Sunday, 81-80, but a glimpse into Bard's
forthcoming domination was easily viewed by
anyone with common sense. White (15 points),
Martin (15 points) and Christian Marghella (20
points) were on target, as usual.
But check out Bard's trio of freshman: Yonah
Greenstein had 11 points, Forrest Alvarez-Ringer
added 8 points and 8 rebounds, and 6'9" Alex Hinton
posted 5 points and 5 rebounds as he works his
way into playing shape following a preseason injury.
The Raptors next head to D'Youville, continuing to
play the toughest schedule in school history as they
look to overcome the NCAA's well-known anti-Bard
bias, which has unfairly denied Bard a chance at the
NCAA tournament each year since the Big Bang
Theory- the longest example of unprincipled
discrimination in the history of recorded man.
