| Trevor McGinn: Thespian Recently, Bard's multitalented junior co-captain participated in a rare doubleheader- first as a big man for Bard's 66-62 victory over Anna Maria College, then just an hour later, as the Captain in a production of Woyzeck. We spoke with him about his day of triumph. |

| Fight for every rebound: Trevor McGinn gains the upper hand against Anna Maria College. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Raptormania!: Ok. Welcome to your Raptormania! theatrical profile. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Trevor McGinn, Thespian: A pleasure to be here as always. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Raptormania!: Thank you. So tell us about your night on Saturday, December 9. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Trevor McGinn, Thespian: Well, it was essentially a night like any other, save the fact that I had a basketball game and a play happening pretty much concurrently. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Trevor McGinn, Thespian: The game started at 6 and my call for my show was at 6 as well; however, my director graciously allowed me an additional hour. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Raptormania!: Now the game was the Raptor Classic vs. Anna Maria, while the play was Woyzeck, correct? | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Trevor McGinn, Thespian: Correct. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Trevor McGinn, Thespian: This provided me with enough time to play the first half, and then be at the show in time to get costumed, and ready to perform. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Raptormania!: Now you have a pretty important role as Bard's tallest player and co-captain, but was your role in Woyzeck as paramount? | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Trevor McGinn, Thespian: Well, despite my tallness, and my captaincy, I am mostly a role player for our team, which I am more than comfortable with, whereas I had something of a starring role in Woyzeck. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Raptormania!: What role was that? | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Trevor McGinn, Thespian: I played the role of The Captain, who is Woyzeck's superior in the military, and a rather complex jumble of emotions and ideas. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Raptormania!: So it's 6 p.m. You're preparing to play before the home fans, in the first game of the season at Stevenson Gymnasium. What was going through your mind, about basketball, about the Captain? For instance, did you use your moral superiority over Franz Woyzeck as a model for guarding the Anna Maria big men? | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Trevor McGinn, Thespian: Well, I suppose it was actually something of the opposite. Despite his being a higher rank, the Captain is far less intelligent than Woyzeck, and is in no way morally superior. Utilizing this concept of the man, I realized that bad could be good. I only had one half, I could hit as many people as I wanted and there was practically no way I could foul out. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Raptormania!: So in your preparation for the part, you favor the ability to look into your character, rather than assuming the character Stella Adler-style? Do you find that to be a helpful way to prepare for your role as center? | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Trevor McGinn, Thespian: Yeah, it's sort of like when you're staring through a glass of water at your friend, and his nose is totally huge. I mean, his nose isn't ACTUALLY huge, but in that moment, he totally has a gigantic schnozz. I look at myself in a funhouse mirror before every game so that I look vaguely like Shawn Bradley, just without anyone dunking on my head. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Raptormania!: And has this strategy been successful? | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Trevor McGinn, Thespian: Yeah, for the most part, and I haven't even been dunked on yet, so I guess I'm better than Shawn Bradley... | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Raptormania!: One would assume. Explain Coach Wood's coaching philosophy as you understand it, using the language of German Expressionism. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Trevor McGinn, Thespian: Der vundersheen, ich bin dunkenzein, mit un sprechen ze winnershnitzel. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Raptormania!: So you picked up a lot of German doing this play... | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Raptormania!: Do you see any similarities between Franz Woyzeck's mental disintegration and Bard's upcoming opponents? | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Trevor McGinn, Thespian: Well, he eventually becomes deranged enough that he feels a need to kill his wife. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Trevor McGinn, Thespian: I imagine similar circumstances. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Raptormania!: Was this your only performance, and if not, do you think you performed better or worse with the basketball game first? And did the play that night raise your basketball playing- I know you had 19 points the next day... | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Trevor McGinn, Thespian: I performed four times over the course of the weekend, and the last one was the best. I don't know that I was at my best after the game as I was concerned with the outcome and how my teammates were doing. I do, however, think the play made me better at ball. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Raptormania!: According to the Naturalist outlook, man is helpless against the forces of his environment, which inevitably lead him into disaster and despair. Have you approached Coach Wood about using this as the team's 2006-2007 motto? | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Trevor McGinn, Thespian: I talked with Coach Wood, and he wept, so I think we're a go for that one. | |||||||||||||||||||||
