| April 20 - Contrary to speculation, Bard men's basketball coach Chris Wood will remain with the Bard Raptors. With both the St. John's and Georgetown jobs open, many were concerned that Wood would be lured away from the surging Raptors program. However, with today's announcement that John Thompson III had been hired instead, it is clear that the high-profile attempts by both programs have failed. Wood began to attract national attention this season after winning the 2003-2004 HVMAC Coach of the Year award, an accolade luminaries such as Red Auerbach, Red Holtzman and even Bill Fitch had never managed to capture. Further concern followed among the Bard family after Wood had a headshot made that was obviously professionally done (see above), leading to concern that he was looking to make the move to Division I. But a source close to the program revealed that it was simply Wood's attempt to keep pace with what is increasingly an image-conscious school. |
