| Anti-Raptor Bias Exposed! Owner of Ratings System on Bard's Low Mark: "There's nothing I can really do to defend it." January 25 - In an e-mail exchange with Raptormania!, Kenneth Massey of the Massey ratings system seemed almost as perplexed with his rating of Bard's basketball team as 398th in the country as we are. Of course, since it's his system, that is a problem. "The teams are all real close," Massey said, "so you're just splitting hairs. There's nothing I can really do to defend it - it's just the result of a mathematical calculation." When advised that computers carry a well-known bias against liberal arts schools, Massey replied, "I have no clue what you are talking about." Anti-Raptor bias is rife within the media. Earlier this year, outlets from ESPNNews to the Los Angeles Times carried news of a Bard loss to Cal Tech, while a Bard rout of Polytechnic University somehow did not warrant a mention. |
