| Raptors Scale Green Mountain, 100-81 November 21, 2007 |
| Justin White's 27 points provided the Bard Raptors with the lactose-intolerance required to best the previously unbeaten cheese-eating Vermonters from Green Mountain College, 100-81, before a capacity crowd at Stevenson Gymnasium. Green Mountain raced out to an early lead, paced by Doug Hammond. But his effect on the game would prove to be as ineffectual as his planned Business degree from a liberal arts school. Ray Arocho added 20 smooth points, including three baskets from beyond the arc, and Demitrius Washington had 19 in a balanced scoring effort. He was also fouled hard several times down the stretch, as a number of lesser Eagles took their shots at the Raptor captain. Their anger and dissatisfaction with the world belies Green Mountain's own promise of a life filled with "secrets and laughter over a late-afternoon latte." And instead of ending the day with a "dark-roasted demitasse", Green Mountain went home with their first loss of the season. Eli Strauss added 6 points and seven rebounds in 15 strong minutes off the bench, while Trevor McGinn, who has repeatedly admitted to hailing from Vermont, took it easy with just six points against his stateside brethren, bound by the state code, "Our teddy bears buy forgiveness after you cheat on your wife." While the Eagles return to Vermont to ponder a winter filled with, well, nothing, Bard will enjoy a Thanksgiving feast as an appetizer before returning to the court November 27 for their main course, Mount St. Mary's, the successful-porn-flick-turned-academic-institution. The Skyline Conference opener is also the Hudson Valley Shootout Tournament. Should the Raptors and Vassar, which faces SUNY-New Paltz, both win, the day of reckoning for the Vassar Brewers (so-named because the most prestigious job any grad can hope for is bartender) would be November 28. In preparation for the coming disaster, the Community Action Partnership of Dutchess County will be at Stevenson Gym both nights to collect canned goods for Vassar students both in the wake of the Bard slaughter, and of course, for their coming years of unemployment, relying on the twin incomes of welfare and dropping their pants for money. Please bring canned goods of any kind. These people chose Vassar. They're not choosy. |
