Bard Romps Over Purchase
January 12, 2008
Three Raptors scored more than 20 points apiece, while Arkansas Pride David Polett added 15 huge points, as Bard showed the ability to finish off an opponent in a hostile environment, eviscerating SUNY Purchase, 102-91.
Trevor McGinn added 10 for Bard, along with a beautiful block late in the first half that he kept in play, smooth as cheddar. Meanwhile, even some Purchase fans wondered aloud about how Bard managed to be a step ahead of the competition at every turn.
"It's just so hard, you know," a visibly emotional Purchase coach Jeff Charney said after the loss when asked about the difficulties playing Bard. "You know, I've worked so hard... some of us are Bard, some of us are not. Some of us are destined to be Skyline Conference champions, some of us are destined to be relegated to the scrap heap of Division III basketball."
The appeal, designed to help Charney among women basketball fans, failed due to Bard's hopeful, optimistic offensive sets and defensive pressure, nicknamed "The Audacity of Full-Court Press."
